Family traditions for Holy Days can be a significant learning and bonding opportunity for families. Some families enjoy elaborate traditions which is fine if you have the desire and time. For me, simplicity is the key to consistent traditions each year. This section will include some simple ideas families can use or adapt to celebrate Easter, Christmas, and General Conference.

General Conference and Goal Setting
We have adopted goal setting as a routine at the beginning of each quarter of the year. Our goal setting sessions almost line up with the seasons with some variation.
- Beginning of each quarter. We set learning goals in the four areas of the new Children and Youth program - spiritual, physical, social, intellectual. If we are home schooling, we also set learning goals to include History, Math, Science/Nature study, Language Arts.
- 1st week of January: Our goals correspond to winter. Inside projects, stories, family together time in the evening, etc.
- Spring General Conference:
- The week before General Conference, we evaluate what we have learned and the progress we have made on our goals. We also consider which talks from the previous general conference have taken on a deeper meaning after we have pondered and applied the counsel.
- The week after General Conference we set new goals for the quarter as we consider the counsel received from the talks in General Conference.
- President Ballard offered this counsel about Goal Setting in the April 2017 General Conference. This is a good talk to review in preparation for Goal Setting. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2017/04/return-and-receive?lang=eng
- Shortly after Independence Day in July
- Our goals correspond to summer and include more outdoor projects, gardening, family reunions, and family vacations.
- October General Conference
- Same preparation as Spring Conference
